I headed over to Sandford Springs at 9am expecting to spend some time on the driving range today as there had been a frost again the night before. It was also the captains drive in so thought I'd watch the new captain for 2010 hit his drive from the 1st tee! There was also a 7 hole cross country texas scramble to help celebrate the new captains, someone had dropped out so I took their place rather than spending the day at the range.
Cross Country golf is a lot of fun - if you ever get the chance to play it then you should. Rather than playing the golf course in the normal way you tee off heading for completely different holes eg 1st tee to the 17th green. As Sandford has 27 holes (3 sets of 9) this makes the cross country even more interesting as you can end up playing some really long Par 7's! Quite often you have to aim over trees with your tee shots and have unusual approach angles so the texas scramble side of this makes it fair and very enjoyable.
Our team did very well - although it was still very cold and the ground was quite frozen the greens weren't too bad and you could still play some nice shots into them and they'd have a chance of stopping. Our nett score was -3 which we were all happy with.
So seven holes was all I did today, but I was very happy with how I was striking the ball. The shots I played were much improved over Saturday. After having 4 months away from playing I know it is going to take a little bit of time to start playing well again, so January really is to get back to a the level of last year before pushing on.
There are two things I have been trying out from How to Eat, Move and Be Healthy. Since New Years Eve I have only been drinking water - and generally just drinking more of it, and also getting to bed at 1030pm each night and making sure I get 8 hours of sleep. I think the two things together are definitely helping as I have been waking up feeling very refreshed and feel as though I have more energy and concentration during the day. I'm a bit concerned I'll get bored of just drinking water though!
