Odyssey 2 ball White Hot XG Putter Review

The Odyssey 2 ball White Hot putter has been serving me very well for the last 6 months. I'd tried out a few friends Odyssey 2 balls before purchasing my own so I knew what I was getting once I handed over my cash.

About 8 months ago I read Dave Pelz Putting Bible and it had a big effect on my putting. I really like the analytical material that was presented and the actual tests he performed to back up his suggested methods. I'd never really thought too much about my putting stroke before reading this book, but after I'd completed it I switch to the 'pure-in-line' stoke that Mr Pelz recommends.

For this stroke to be effective it is also recommended that you have a face balanced putter. Four months before buying the Putting Bible I had purchased a new Scotty Cameron Newport Select 2. I absolutely loved the look of this putter, and even though it was heel toe balanced and more suitable for an arc'd putting stroke I persevered with it while adopting the straight back and through.

As Phil Mickelson says in his new book when discussing the right putter for the right putting stroke - you can't beat physics, and to use the correct weighted putter for the stroke you are using. I'd spent a lot of money on my Scotty Cameron though! When I putted well, I got everything. There were a few instances though where I'd missed 3 ft putts that started putting a few doubts in my mind. 'You've got the wrong tool for the job' was the voice that kept appearing every now and again.

After testing a few pals Odyssey 2 ball putters on the practise green and seeing Padraig Harrington and a few others on tour use them so successfully I decided to go ahead and purchase my own.

As you can see I went for the model with the black stripe through the two white balls. I feel this really helps me line up my putts with my target. The insert that strikes the ball gives really good feedback and has worked very well on slow and fast greens.

The grip is also very good. It is made of a very soft rubber material which gives you a great indication if you are gripping the putter too hard with your fingers.

The putter feels slightly heavier than my previous putters as well which is something I like.

Overall I'm really delighted with this putter. Previously I use to swap and change putters every 4 - 6 weeks but this one has stayed in my bag for 6 months solid! Highly recommended if you are using the 'pure-in-line' putting stroke - as is Dave Pelz Putting Bible. Why not treat yourself to both at the start of this new golf season!
