Some NLP and Golf - Day 28

Today is my day of rest from the gym and driving range. Around lunch time I really started to get the urge to hit some golf balls but I managed to suppress it! This enthusiasm should spill over to tomorrow and the rest of the week now :-)

Ever since starting to play golf again two and half years ago I've been reading books on the mental side of golf and also NLP. Reading something is easy, actually putting it into practice is much harder. As NLP really interested me I had considered for sometime speaking to somebody about it and maybe getting some coaching.

Andy from Pro Golf Mind Coach contacted me after reading this blog and my tweets on Twitter. I read the free report on his web site (which I highly recommend taking a look at) and took him up on his offer of coaching over the phone. What interested me the most was his mention of using NLP to address peoples beliefs about golf. Today we did an initial 20 minute session over the phone so Andy could understand where I am with golf right now and some of the mental challenges I am having with golf.

As I've said on here before the main thing I am working on is trying to shorten my swing to stop me over swinging. The problem I have is I believe I am making a 3/4 swing - but it actually turns out to be a full one (or even an over swing). When practicing and playing alone it is impossible to get immediate feedback of how far back your swing is, so when I'm next playing a round with someone I need them to watch my back swing closely and then let me know either 1 or 2

1 - if it is a 3/4 swing which is what I'll be trying to do

2 - if it is a full or over swing

This way I'll get immediate feedback and get to know quickly when I'm making a 3/4 swing.

I'm going to put this into practice for the next 2 weeks and then book another session.
