This weekends golf was a story of two days. I played at Theale on both Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday I played great, shot 77, great banter, really enjoyed myself. Here are the stats:
Fairways : 62%
Greens in Reg : 33%
Putts : 27
Scambles : 57%
Score : 77
Sunday I didn't seem to enjoy it, it was slightly colder, everything took longer as we were a fourball, the group wasn't as chatty
Fairways : 54%
Greens in Reg : 17%
Putts : 30
Scrambles : 40%
Score : 85
On Saturday I put one ball in the water - so in theory the score could have been a couple better. On Sunday I put a couple in the water. The greens at Theale are very small, so you will never hit many greens in regulation. My score at Theale is often a reflection of how good my short game is that day. Get that scramble percentage up, and the score will be good. Overall though the weekend was good. Considering I now think 85 is a terrible score shows how I have moved on in 12 months.
But I need to figure out how to play well 2 days in a row. There is nothing connecting the two days together, they are separate events. I also need to figure out some tactics for when playing in a slow group. I know that when competitions start happening things will slow down as people seem to think a 10 minute pre shot routine will help them (whereas usually the opposite it true!) - so I need to get some tactics.
One thing I have figured out - I count as soon as I start standing over the ball, and start my swing when the count gets to 4. The aim is to carry on counting so your mind stays out of the way of your golf swing and you swing naturally. I have noticed with my bad shots, the count doesn't actually get past 4 as I stop counting and start thinking about my swing. My good shots - sometimes I'm still counting when I am putting the club away in my bag!!!! LOL I have been up to 17 before I realised I was still counting in my head!
The aim of this week is to count up to 10 for every shot.
